The color and vibration of this flower grabs me and then slowly releases me into a state of bliss! This image is a my attempt to capture the essence and lusciousness of a Peony…the western Lotus is my name for it…the shrub needs a bit of cold to grow so you see these beautiful botanicals in the North East and around the states.
I live and work in a place where the hardwoods meet the pines and the ferns thrive in the understory of the woods. Awareness of this world is what drives me to create.
The elements of the wind, water, earth, and fire draw me in. Then the space around them starts to focus my attention. My imagination urges me to connect to the essence of this element or subject - and to really see it. I attempt to capture that view and build my images until you can see it too.
I feel grateful to be able to print the image on cotton papers, light film and many other modern sub-straits. And of course, installation of the art adds another level to it.
In the last years, I have managed a gallery, created commissioned works and shown my work in multiple venues.
