With every floral photograph I create, from bud to decay, my goal is always to tell an evocative story through my photography.
My story began in Brooklyn, New York, where my artist mother painted large flower murals on our bedroom walls, the vines crawling along doors, like veins beneath skin. I didn’t realize that her flowers would eventually find their way into my bones.
While many of my floral photographs resemble old-world style paintings, I’ve recently been creating abstract art with my flowers. I find it very freeing to explore new dimensions with flower photography. Each flower, with a riot of colors, dictates the type of abstract art I create. I often find myself lost in the abstraction of the design, which tends to be a dream-like experience for me.
My art is hanging in many private collections across the country. In addition, I recently completed a collection called FlowerStory. It is a hand-bound book, covered in Japanese silk, with over 50 fine art floral photographs printed on the finest paper, with archival ink.
I offer a 24x24 or a 36x36 in either a fine art print or a museum-quality canvas. I hand-select the fine art paper and the canvas, and oversee each printing to ensure that my photograph is honored with the finest materials.
My photography can be seen in New York at the 1stdibs Gallery, Gallery 104, New York Arts, and in Georgia at The Chatt Hills Gallery in Serenbe, just outside of Atlanta. In addition, I am also being shown at Americasmart in the Curated Home Brands showroom. My website: www.januarymoonphotography.com features more of my art, and I am also on instagram:
