Since the first horse drawing at age 3, it’s been mostly animal portraiture ever since. Though she has worked in watercolor, mixed-media, leaded glass and pastel, her favorite by far is oil paint (“the best medium for fur, feathers, hide and hooves”) with a minimal palette of usually two, and up to sometimes six, primary colors plus black and white. Seeking out mentors over time for information on color theory and classical technique, she is mostly however self-taught. Copying old master paintings has provided a wealth of information on composition, drama and color but really “painting is all about understanding the basics and practice, practice, practice”. She has done commissioned works of beloved horses and pets for many years and currently teaches basic color theory and painting technique as a private tutor. A native Southern Californian, she and her husband Steve have recently moved to Serenbe. For further information, please contact Malinda at : firstname.lastname@example.org .
